Global Immersion Program: A Transformative Journey

From July 7 to July 13, 2024, our Global Immersion Program took us to Singapore, a journey brimming with learning and thrilling global experiences. Each day added immense value, enriching not only our academic knowledge but also our professional skills.

Singapore, a highly developed nation, impressed us from the moment we landed. The seamless, fully automated immigration process at the airport showcased the country’s advanced technology, emphasizing how technology can reduce time and errors. Singapore exemplifies harmony between environment, infrastructure, and economy. The city’s greenery amidst its infrastructure development demonstrates that urban growth can coexist with nature. Singapore’s waste management system, which generates energy from waste, further highlights its commitment to sustainability.

As PGDM International Business students, this experience broadened our thinking horizons. Singapore’s culture prioritizes education, discipline, economy, and environment, transforming it from a slum to a global financial capital. At the URA Centre (Urban Redevelopment Authority), we learned how meticulous planning—80% planning and 20% execution—can lead to remarkable results. Despite its limited land area of 50 by 27 kilometers, Singapore utilizes its resources efficiently. One impressive idea is the “10-minute amenities” concept, ensuring residents are never more than 10 minutes away from essential services.

Singapore’s focus on education is evident in its policies. Parents are required by law to send their children to school, emphasizing that education is crucial for developing better citizens. The country’s model of combining economic, environmental, and social factors leads to sustainability, flexibility, and resilience.

Our time at the National University of Singapore (NUS), one of the world’s best universities, was equally enriching. Our training in AI-powered business analytics illuminated how technology can solve complex business problems using data as fuel. Professor Tan at the NUS School of Computing provided us with practical insights, while our training on Altair AI Studio added significant value to our profiles.

In conclusion, Singapore is a city of learning. Being at one of the world’s best universities underscored the importance of research and innovation for national growth. This experience provided invaluable management lessons, demonstrating the integration of education, technology, and planning in building a sustainable and resilient society.
